Remington 700 SPS Stock

Simon Crowther

I have a Remington 700 SPS with the Hogue non slip panels, it's a lovely shooter for a rifle I bought second hand for not much money.

Trouble is I find the length of pull a bit short and the comb a bit too low. My scope'e mounted as far forward as I can get it and it's still not enough for the prone position. I've raised the comb.

Is it just me or do Remington make all their stocks for women. I know Remington do a Length of Pull kit, but I can't make up my mind whether to use this or get another stock.

I know I could put a rail on it to move the scope forward but I think the LOP would still be too short, I just don't like it. The rifle shoots half an MOA, I was lucky and gor a good one, so it's fine apart from the LOP.

I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are and if they've had the same problem?

Regards

Re: Remington 700 SPS Stock
Hi Simon, it is not just you. Most of the rifles made by each of the various manufacturers now feature short, light and lean 'tool handles'. If you are over 6ft tall, this can be a major problem. However it can also be a problem for shorter yet broad men with very large hands.

In some instances, the fit of the rifles is quite ridiculous. I have just had three tutorials in a row where the men were so tall and broad that it made the guns look as you say, as though they were built for small women. I have spoken about this issue in various posts, podcasts and at NZDA club meets etc. It is important for each of you to drive the market and to not let the market drive you. Being caught between undersized stocks and giant tactical nightmares is no fun at all. What you need is a decent tool handle and unfortunately, a few spacers will not fix other issues for large framed men.

Re: Remington 700 SPS Stock
I can get a 2nd hand Remington 700 tactical (hardly used like it says on every classifieds) in .308 and there's a cheap HS Percision stock for sale seprately..
I was probably taken off to fit a hogue..
Will it be a simple retro fit? Tactical into the sendero?
Thanks
