Arve RingsbyeJust bought a used No 1. Its a sporter 1 in 3006.I`m going to rebarrel the rifle with a 26`barrel, either a Lothar-Walther or a Pac-Nor barrel. The rifle will be used to hunt roe deer, red deer and caribou. I`m not able to decide between the 6,5x55 or the 3006. This is not ment to be a real long range rifle, but should be able to reach out to 600 yards. Probably I should choose the 3006? Any suggestions? |

John SmithRe: Ruger No 1 - caliber choiceMy two Ruger 1A's are in 6.5x55 and 7x57. The first has taken manywhitetail and mule deer. The second has put down a bull elk here in Washington state. |

Paul LevermanRe: Ruger No 1 - caliber choiceYou just can't go wrong with a 30-06. From 110gr to 225gr bullets, ammo available world wide at just about every corner store, manageable recoil, load it high - load it mild, up close or reach out. It is probably the best work horse you can find. |
