T3 composite stock, Australia

Aussie Hunter

I see Kiwi composites stocks are available in Australia and thought about maybe putting one on a Tikka T3 .308 stainless laminate that i already have. (limbsaver standard)

I also tried to look at the precision platforms sight but cant see there products tonight, do they export??

SG gunstocks dont export by their website

Im only looking at this as a weight saving and because they make them. Im not wealthy but this is my interest and i would like to try one, and save weight if noticable.

What ones are available to me in Australia, prices, recomendations?
approx 600gm seems to be the stock weight does anyone know off hand what a T3 laminated stock weighs?

Hey Aussie,

I am sure Clive (of precision platforms) has a post on here about sending stocks to Australia. Even some early ones that may have had minor imperfections at a very cheap rate. My advice would be to get in touch with them and see if there are still some about.

I would suggest sending Dan an Email not sure if he is making them for the Tika yet but they are brilliant stocks and Dan is a top Guy to deal with

Thank you Brendon.
I just took a standard Tikka laminate stock off a rifle on display.
It is 1090 grams.
I have a Hi-Tec Tikka carbon stock here that is 670 grams.
Hmmm weight saving. I hear a lot about it. So one customer decides he needs a mountain rifle that saves 1.5kg over his standard rifle. The new rifle and scope will cost him $3000. Being an intelligent chap he goes away and calculated how much weight he can save if he spends $3000 replacing existing hunting gear with lightweight gear. He could save 6kg!! So that is a much better investment ay?
Cheers,Dan.

Re: T3 composite stock, Australia
Yes saving 6kg on gear is smarter but i was just looking because they make them. Kiwi composites quote their stocks as coming in under 600g so take that from Dan.'s weigh in of 1090 and you can take half a kilo off a Tikka. Thanks Dan for weighing it.
Any thoughts on the kiwi composite stocks anyone?
I dont carry a lot of gear but 500gm may be noticable on a stock standard Tikka. A thousand dollars worth . I dont know. Thinking on it
The advantage with the Tikka is i can use with any calibre as all the same inletting so it offers options for the future if i find the perfect calibre.
Clive from precision platforms replied quickly to email but his options are a completely different thing. But they sound good for serious long range stuff.

Thanks Brendon, we're getting some great feedback on the stock, and rightly so due to the amount of development the Apex Hunter has had.

Christopher's email (aussie hunter) indicated his requirements are rather simple, nothing really beyond 300m. Its interesting to note the factory tikka stock comes in at around 1.75lb, this is only .25lb (113grams) heavier than Hi-tecs.
From a personal observation, both Ken Henderson's and Bolly's demonstrate better design characteristics in regards to ergonomics than the kiwi comp ones, and so if you really need a carbon stock over the plastic, id go to either of those, but as Brendon has found out, he now has a rifle capable of both rapid engagement at close range and of very accurate fire out to the limits of the bullets ability to perform its task, and what facilitates this is a stock that promotes consistency in training and thus repeatability in application, and when we have more than one rifle fitted the same as Brendon aims to, we simply become more consistent again.

Re: T3 composite stock, Australia
i agree there is a lot to be said for consistancy as Clive says, I have been known to tell others have one rifle know it and learn to shoot it well. i have a few rifles and jumpo between them for different pruposes, a.223 & 8x56 scope set up for spotlighting vs a .308 carry rifle but Clives comments ring true consitency is the key
I use my Tikka CTR .7mm-08 a lot lately purchased to use from a car, lightened the trigger planning to leave it pretty much as is if i find it accurate enough. My theory is even though im generally not taking long shots any error in accuracy is exagerated over any distance so tweeking it and knowing it is accurate within reason builds confidence for me so I shoot better , Practice will improve this and having different calibres in the same configuration would help for sure, particuarly if you wanted to practice reguarly with a smaller calibre.
Not much support here for the KIWI stock and that 1K may be better saved for another project, maybe i will eventually build a .300wm on a precsiion platform , I tend to stay with common standard cals mostly.
