Tikka T3 trigger fault or adjustment error?

Hey guys,
I have a brand new varmint tikka T3. I immediately adjusted the trigger as described in Nathans Book, wound adjustment all in and then out to the almost touch trigger mount screw, feels light and crisp just like my old sako A7 trigger.

When I made the adjustment i tested it with my fingers (bolt out) and I noticed it looked like the sears didnt always engage properly, I didnt think much of it, I thought with the bolt it should work ok, I tried that and it did, I broke in the barrel and started load development, it shoots great.

However, I was doing some dry firing practice with some fired brass in the chamber and noticed a couple times the firing pin hadnt cocked, I experimented a bit and found that if I pointed the rifle upwards while closing the bolt.... maybe half the time this problem would occur. I presume this means the firing pin is protruding at the bolt face or if a live round is chambered resting on the primer when this happens.

Does this sound like the trigger is faulty or have I adjusted it down too light (however like I said done exact same set up with sako A7 which was faultless)

Btw, the safety works fine, it passes the drop test when firing pin does engage.fast cycling of bolt seemed ok when tested but I expect it would fail if pointing upwards. I'll try winding the adjustment in some.

Hi Mark, there are minor differences from unit to unit. This also includes the actual casting of the screw head and resulting thickness of the head relative to how far it can be turned out. It sounds like it is out too far so yes, you'll need to adjust it back in some.

Fixed, it took one full turn in but still feels pretty good.

Cheers
