.270 conversion option

Matt Reid

Hi all,

Just throwing around some ideas here and haven't been able to find a conclusive answer as yet. Is it possible to take a Rem 700 in. 270 and convert to 7mm rem mag?

If so, what modifications would be required (excluding barrel of course)?

Cheers,

Matt

Re: .270 conversion option
Hi Matt, true-Flite do an excellent job of this. The bolt face needs to be widened and after doing this, its best to fit a PTG sako style extractor. That is pretty much all that is involved and the job can be done as a part of blue printing / truing. The mag box is the same. The feed rails may need scalloping at the rear so you can thumb down the belted cases into the magazine, that is pretty straight forwards too.

Thanks for the response Nathan, that is good to know. I assume you would suggest fitting something like a premium grade sporter barrel to the action?

Don't forget to consider a 280rem or 280AI...

Take a look at the knowledge base and read about it. It will be easier, as you only have to change the barrel...

Cheers![b]
