Alan have a look at the 35 Whelen Ackley improved. You may be surprised at how good it is 😆.

Re: 8mm-06
The main problem Alan, is that it is becoming more difficult to find good pills. If you have an existing 8mm barrel that you want to put to use then sure. Or if you have a serious interest in the 8mm bore for reasons of nostalgia then again, sure. But if you simply want to build big power from scratch, then either the .30-06 or .35 Whelen can prove to be more effective.

An AI should not be too difficult. Start with a .30-06 AI reamer, then finish with an 8x57 reamer. A Hornady .325WSM die set could be used for basic neck sizing and bullet seating, though concentricity will not be as good as can be obtained with a custom neck die.

Re: 8mm-06
Thank You, Warwick and Nathan,I have been trying to decide between the 8mm-06 ai and the 35 whelen ai I looked at the 8mm 170 sst bullet and thought with the Ackley improved version I would get about 150 fps over the standard 8-06 and reach out a little further.but in the north eastern U.S and Canada where I would be hunting white tail deer, black bear and moose I think the 35 Whelen ai would be a better choice?I would appreciate both yer gentlemens thought on this to help me make up my mind once and for all. Thank You Very Much, Alan

Factory ammo is available too so you don't have to reload but it is best if you do to get the best from your Akley improved 35 Whelen.
