Quite an interesting article on primers. Dispels a couple of myths... http://www.shootingtimes.com/ammo/ammunition_st_mamotaip_200909/

Re: Primer article
Good find, Mike. Do you remember that "shortage" of primers? As I recall, it all started when some ignorant politician figured that if you shorten the shelf life of a primer, people couldn't hoard them. All he said was that it might be a good idea. If they couldn't hoard them because of a short shelf life, when the supply to the general public ran out, only the government would have access to primers/firearms. The ultimate Gun Control Act. Shooters panicked. All, or nearly all, the on shelf stock was gone in days, and it took quite a while to bring reality back. Of course, this was dispelled by the manufacturers almost immediately, they had no intention of altering the mixture to break down in a given time frame. Litigation would be overwhelming. And all because of an off-hand remark that the media picked up on.

I am so used to reading drivel on the net. This one made a nice change. It is good advice for anyone interested.

It was a bit of a light bulb moment when he explained the anvil and the required crush... I remember the primer shortage, kind of parallels Obama being touted as anti-gun... record guns sales through his presidency... Lol

Re: Primer article
Hi all,
Sorry for being late to the discussion. But here's a page from the Danish text book for the reloaders exam. Test of three calibers and nine primers. Unscientific since only four rounds per caliber/primer combo were tested, but still somebody tried....
For each test average V0 and top/low velocities are shown.
I don't expect everyone to read Danish but most will be able to read load data and rifles used.

Re: Primer article
according to my lyman manual...it sure makes a big difference in shotgun cartridges, both to velocity and pressure.
