Really? I've read here about this rifle. I had the impression they weren't all that good, or they were near perfect. For CAD$3,449.00, I had better get a perfect one. Oh, but wait. Sako guarantees that I can hit my target!. This is a quote:

"If you are looking to shoot far, the Sako 85 Long Range rifle will serve you well. This rifle has been designed for long-range hunting in particular. Specific details, such as a muzzle brake, 26” match grade barrel, double sling studs and a stock designed for the prone position, guarantee that you will hit your target even from extreme distances."

Now I can hunt in New Zealand without leaving my back porch!

Hi Paul,

Yes, I've also looked at this rifle (and its price tag) in amazement. One shop over here has been advertising this quite a bit and apart from the Sako name and good marketing, I can't see where the fuss is.

But for someone with too much money, and not interested in doing research to find out about how the sako action changed, I'm sure it will look and sound mighty impressive to his mates..

Shooting the 338 LM with a muzzle brake, in an enclosed shooting range is a good way to give everyone serious hearing issues. But like you said, don't even need to walk to find game! If you can see it, you can shoot it! haha

Hi Cor - Your second sentence says it all, that must be who they are targeting (sorry, had to say it). And you still have to buy glass for it.

Yes and that would be 70% of the population? Hey Paul set up a target on your roof and I'll get one on my steeple and we can measure the groupings and score them mate! Testing the out of the box crapuracy! Lol. I have a Sako SS 75 in 6.5x55 Swede. It shoots well with hand loads.
The 85 had some deprovement$ made to it.
