Bedding the P-14

When I do the F&R bedding, will one kit be enough? I ask because this will be an abnormal application, whereas the knox has approximately 5-1/2" of parallel to bed (31" barrel). At that distance the barrel channel is close to 1" in depth.

It always make sense to have a larger order to save on shipping fees anyway, and if you find you may not have enough you will have another on hand.

I already have a supply. I was more curious as to whether or not I should mix two batches at the start. It proves rather difficult to mix and pour one batch into place and then find out that you are short and have to remove the barreled action to place the second batch.

Re: Bedding the P-14
Having just worked on Thomas's, one kit was plenty. We did use temp foam dams.

We left a ref point at the front of the mag well and dug forwards from there and a ref point at the front of the tang, digging back from there.

No hidden nasties with this job, was nice and straight forwards.

At the angled tang (angled screw hole), you may want to clear the rear hole after the action is down in the mortice, then fit a headless screw. Its either that or you have to get your alignment spot on with no headless screw. I went this second route and only just got away with it on Thomases rifle. I made some video but am now thinking I should / could have been better off fitting a headless screw after setting the action down as no doubt a few viewers will get caught out if they try to bed without a rear screw in place. The thing is, the step in the tang and pillar should generally line themselves up without a headless screw. You'll see the pros and cons of what I mean when you do your trial fits.
