Tikka T3 Light 25 06

Hi Guys

Just a quick review of my Tikka T3 Light 25 06.
Not a long range rig, but good for carrying longer distances and hunting up and over mountains.
Out of the box it sure has a lot of plastic, hence the light weight.
I added a five shot mag as I cull a lot of goats on a forestry block and sometimes run into big mobs. I also added one of my Spartan Suppressors from another rifle and a Leupold VX1 3x9x40 that I had as a spare scope.
Yesterday I sighted it in and broke in the barrel. Very little, if any copper fowling to be seen.
I used the exact loads from my other 25-06, with AR 2217 powder that I was expecting to be too slow for the short 22" barrel. But no muzzle flash at all. Does the suppressor stop muzzle flash? Any way once I got it on paper and dropped it down five clicks, I shot an easy 3/4" group with the last of my ammo. And this was with quick shots from a hot barrel so I am very happy with progress and wouldn't it be good if I can use the same load in both rifles. Something to work on anyway.
3/4" 19mm

And the Tikka 25 06 next to my P17 25 06. Note the barrel difference.

Re: Tikka T3 Light 25 06
One thing I did notice was that I couldn't close the bolt on half my rounds. These were neck sized only reloads from my other rifle. I didn't try and force the bolt. Once back in the man cave I re-checked them and they would easily feed in my P17 25 06 but the bolt wouldn't close in the Tikka 25 06. There were fine marks on the shoulder of the cases. So I will have to Full Length Size them to fire in both rifles. Hopefully accuracy wont change much in the P17 25 06 as it is shooting 1/2 moa. Again it would be nice any easy if both Rifles could shoot the same loads.

Any thoughts if muzzle flash is stopped with a suppressor?
Just curious.

I shot this sow with the 25 06 last weekend at 263 yards with the 117gr Sierra ProHunter, Dropped the sow on the spot and she rolled down into some bushes. Shot through the shoulder, entry wound can be seen in the pick. Both shoulders were stuffed and recovered the bullet against the far side skin. Lots of damage inside.

And here's a Goat I shot with the 25 06. Projectile again recovered from behind the skin on the far shoulder. Major damage to the vitals.

And the remains of the 117gr Prohunter. Found under the skin on far shoulder.

Set your full length die to just push the shoulder back enough the rounds can chamber reliably and keep on using full length sizing at this setting for the Tikka. These days I hardly ever rely on neck sized rounds for hunting...but targets for sure, and it is shooting targets given the number of shots that one usually makes that is hard on brass.

Good to see these pics posted Ben, thanks for sharing. Looks like typical Prohunter performance. Also similar to the 120gr Speer flat base though the cup and core of the Speer can stay just that little bit more intact depending on bone etc. But generally, they perform much the same.
