Gerard O'Meara

Thinking about buying a knew rifle to use on sambar etc. Caliber I'm considering is 300wsm. Tossing up between tikka t3 and browning abolt.
Both are a similar price. Ideas? Opinions?
Cheers

Re: Gun question
t3 should work out well in a 300wsm.
look in to magazine modification if your want to seat bullets out long.

Re: Gun question
I have done two T3 lite 300WSM's lately where we used the Long action bolt stop, and the 7mm rem mag magazine, then throated the chamber forward about 1.5mm..... this allows you to use the 208 Amax fed from the mag..... with a nice carbon stock on this becomes a very good rifle....
Then there is always the 35WSM or as its called... the 35 Sambar caliber.....
worth considering.... as your pushing pills around 225 grain.... better knocking power for those bigger animals

Now your talking Grant, ......... if only you could have cut me one of those a year or so ago when l set up my 9.3mm!!
Nathans probably thinking "Oh no, Marty will love that Idea he's been bashing my ear about that cal for years!"

Only thing l would do differently is build it on a pos feed Win or Montana SS action but that's just a personal thing, nothing wrong with the Tikka actions.

mmmmmmm!

Re: Gun question
Still, if I were able to locate a good Pre 1964 Winchester long action, I think that I would have it trued then put a great 24 inch heavy sporter weight Stainless steel barrel on it, chambered for the good old .338 Winchester and fit it onto a Manners stock, load up with available commercial brass, load them up and go shoot some more elk.

I love the caliber and it is unreal how effective I have found it.

Re: Gun question
careful Martin you'll start trying to justify a need for a 35 sambar soon.

im hoping to hear of someone building a 35 sambar soon, i know the reamer that trueflite has, has had the Nathan Foster treatment and has been designed for optimal performance.

a heavy barreled tikka in 300wsm is a good choice for an off the shelf rifle, and like Grant has mentioned you can modify it to suit your needs pretty easily.

i agree with Jason, i'm enjoying your post's Grant hope to see more of them

Re: Gun question
yeah sorry about that Grant lol the 35/303 will be the last one for a while i swear.
well until i come up with another harebrain idea and Nathan emails me back, with one of those emails my bank account hates roughly saying "that should work and this is how to do it"
That's enough hijacking from me sorry Gerard.
