Warwick Marflitt
Hey guy's. Well it's been awhile since I've seen this old girl! Dads been gone 23 years and the last time we shot together was at some 6 inch paint tin lids at around 150 yards. This was his deer culling rifle he used in the late 1940s and 50s then it was the farms heavy duty cannon for deer, pigs and cattle. He drilled them can lids fair bang in the middle with WWII mk7 ball ammo. All of his guns have been in storage at my uncle's for the last 23 years. I collected them all last week and They're not in the best condition but they'll clean up after some time and tlc.
So the 303 is a BSA not a Parker Hale as i thought it was? Shes old. It looks like a BSA Lee speed. But the wrist strap has BSA Co stamped on it. Has G R under the crown so its a king George era. I'm thinking it early 1900s. Anyway heres a few pictures of it
The barrel was heavily copper fouled and full of carbon I debated the merits of mucking it out and have gotten to the steel after a lot of soaking and brushwork. The rifling looks sharp and some very fine pitting in the land groves but still clean and shiny raised rifling. I'm going to shoot it and see how it goes.
