Ricardo LaborinGents,Meditating about the combination of Magnum/Standard, I have a Dakota .300WM that I'm taking a deep liking to and there's the opportunity to add a twin in .270Win to the mix - the rifle is beautiful but, given that I have a Rem 700 already in that cal, a luxury. I feel these two cartridges cover all the bases for me. Is there a clear, definitive advantage of running the two cals in the same platform? Thinking transferability and repeatability... Your opinion is well regarded. Saludos! |

Martin TaylorRe: Benefits of two Identical Rifles in Different Calibers....(.300WM and .270Win)Hi Ricardo,I will offer my thoughts as l have 2 almost Identical Remington 700 Police, although one is SA & the other LA. The familiarity that comes with using the 2 is a big plus for me, especially under pressure. Things like stock hold (this is a big one!!), trigger position, finding sight picture, cycling all are the same or very close to each other. This enables me to train with one and swap straight to the other without complication, other than the obvious ballistic differences in cals. Would love another in a 6.5mm |

Warwick MarflittRe: Benefits of two Identical Rifles in Different Calibers....(.300WM and .270Win)Maybe same rifle and cartridge in different calibre's would be great if you are reloading you could have Tikkas in 243 308 & 358 same case and maybe powders n primers? Just don't put 243 into your 358! With matching brand scopes they'd look the part! |

Mike DavisRe: Benefits of two Identical Rifles in Different Calibers....(.300WM and .270Win)if stocks are same dimensions and scopes are same YES definite advantage.you can "train" body/mind using smaller cartridge...even so far as a down load so you can shoot quickly/snap shoot and when you switch rifles it will all feel the same till you squeeze off a shot and feel recoil,by that time animal will be tits up. mate had 2 rem 700s one in .223 and other .270 and it sure worked well for him. just dont grab wrong bolt/ammo when heading away. |

John SmithRe: Benefits of two Identical Rifles in Different Calibers....(.300WM and .270Win)I agree about having two identical rifles, but in differentcalibers. I have a Ruger No. lA in 6.5x55 for deer and a Ruger No. lA in 7x57 for deer and elk. It works for me. |

Ricardo LaborinRe: Benefits of two Identical Rifles in Different Calibers....(.300WM and .270Win)Interesting choice of calibers, LA or SA, or only Mausers like John Smith....It's hard to buy rifles in Mexico, so I try to go for the highest quality from the get-go and not trick them up later on. The Rem I currently have might be lacking there. The Dakota is beautiful.... Keep you posted! |

Dale WilhelmRe: Benefits of two Identical Rifles in Different Calibers....(.300WM and .270Win)You have all missed the most important thing. Matching rifles look really good in the gunrack!Dad and I have had matching .222 and .243's for many years, only difference being mine has twin set triggers. The down side is you have to be very careful to pick up the right bolt when you are heading out. Haven't made this mistake yet but it is always in the back of my mind. |

Warwick MarflittRe: Benefits of two Identical Rifles in Different Calibers....(.300WM and .270Win)Label them or the space there stored. Maybe engrave a Boar on one and a Deer on the other? |
