Rem 700 LA - what is this modification?

Hi Nathan and everyone,
long time fan, first time posting
I just purchased a Rem 700 Sendero in 7mmRemMag. From the serial number manufactured between 2000-2008. From the borescope and bolt-face it looks unfired.
BUT, it has what looks like an aftermarket vent drilled into the bolt? I'm at a bit of a loss as to what it is, why it is there, and what it will do. I have not fired the rifle as yet.
Am posting a couple of photos via imgur.
Many thanks for any clarification that can be provided.

Problem solved: it's a Rem factory fitted J-Lock

I'd never seen one,

Here's a thread summarising what it is, and potential impacts on accuracy for anyone who's interested
