Michael RoachInitially got these for offhand practice and for brass but rifle seems to like them alot. wasin the process of building a 162 g ELD-M load. ( getting there) however I have a epic ( for me) 3 day hunting trip fast approaching... Fallow/sika close bush to 300 m.. I guess my question is. am I limiting myself if I just roll with this load? rifle is putting them in a .8 inch group at 100m (off a pack) chrony says 2630fps from a 20 inch.Tikka. .Seem to hit whatever I aim for. .Anyone have any hunting experience with this load? rifle doesn't like 139g superperformance, was thinking Nosler BT .. realistically I have an hour, maybe two (.afterwork) in the back paddock to make any necessary 1tachanges to my setup... |

Nathan FosterRe: Norma whitetail 150g 7mm08Hi Michael, you are good to go. The mild muzzle velocity is the key, starts slow, equating to low bullet stress on target but retains velocity so that performance stays the same out at distance. |

Michael RoachRe: Norma whitetail 150g 7mm08Thanks Nathan. got off my bum and .finalized my handloads. first two charges I liked velocity wise went .4 and .2 of an inch at 100m. chose .2 going at 2540 fps. both off a pack. in a paddock. then I backed off too 300m and put 12 rounds into a group ( still.on target) of maybe 2.5 inches.. had a bit of a headwind.. am pretty chuffed all and all. I imagine this rifle is good for 500m if not more, if I had more than a 3-15 scope.Rifle/ Calibre/reloading process/shooting technique were all influenced from your book series. the good advice is well appreciated. |
