Velocity formula

TIMOTHY BECKER

I am looking for the formula to calculate the velocity of a bullet at various distance. Yes, I know that there are online calculators, but I would like the formula to build my own spreadsheet. The knowns would be muzzle velocity, projectile weight, bullet BC, attitude, as well as temperature. What else am I missing?
Thanks

Re: Velocity formula
Hi Timothy. Projectile weight doesn’t matter. Take a look at Sierra’s, and Hornady’s, published BCs for their bullets. You’ll see that the BC changes with velocity. Watch Hornady’s 3 podcasts on external ballistics. It’s not possible to calculate velocity from BC at all ranges. You’d be better off using either of those companies’ published Doppler radar data on high BC bullets as a guide.

Timothy - Here is a link to a downloadable Excel spreadsheet that will do what you described. It does not appear to be password protected so you can inspect the formulas. Hope this helps. http://www.jacksonrifles.com/ballistics.htm
