Just thought I would share my new toy, fresh off the presses

Single feed .338 LM, 30 inch palma, 2 ounce trigger etc.

Trueflite barrel but aside from that, hand made by SSRNZ

Hoping to use this to shoot out to 1500m (gongs/paper) with some GS custom turned bullets I have.

Here is the link to an album

Action is steel, 3 locking lugs, all 100% contact as you would expect.

Bolt uses a Sako style extractor and a very light ejector (only throws the brass enough to drop next to you) Given I just forked out 500 bucks for 100 bits of brass I didn't want to throw it a mile away.

Hi Chris. If its a 1:10 twist barrel from TF, this batch of barrels have 'caused' much higher BC's than other barrels, enough to lift the BC of a given bullet by up to .1. The stability imparted to the bullet is incredible. I have never seen any other barrels quite like these. Seems to be consistent through the batch so far. So, fingers crossed you will see the same.

Hi Nathan, yes indeed that's the one on here.

The GS custom 250 grain has a BC of 0.972, in all honesty I don't mind too much if it pushes it over that magic 1.0 mark(these bullets really are target use only).

I'm really after data on the new 285 AMAX, I have high hopes of it out-performing the 300grn SMK

I'll be testing the following:

fed 215m primers
VV N570
285 AMAX 0.03 off the lands
Lapua brass

Your thoughts/ideas would be welcomed

cheers chris.
im guessing there's some teeth/ribs in the action that holds the back of the bolt until its cocked and the mill slots in bolt line up.

looks awesome fun and semi portable

Re: New toy - single shot 338
Have just done first load ups with the 285 AMAX using a spread of powder weights between 92-96gr of N570. Rifle didn't really seem to care about powder weight in terms of accuracy with 5 shot groups going through a single hole at 100m, granted this will be different further out, but I was simply establishing speed.

Results:

92gr - 2777
93gr - 2818
94gr - 2861
95gr - 2875
96gr - 2896

All my loads were measured using my new Gempro 250, so down to 0.02 grain of powder, velocity spread was +- 3 fps.

I see no sense in pushing these faster, at this velocity they will go subsonic at 1700m.
