Oral submission

Simon Crowther

I put in an oral submission in Wellington last Thursday 30th. I was allowed five minutes to present a complex subject.

I was talking about Australia's gun smuggling problem and how because of this, strict firearms laws hadn't helped with gun crime. These weapons are sold on the Dark Internet and so being trained as a Systems Engineer, I decided to have a look and what I found was frightening: all types of guns, rocket launchers, grenades, Semtex and much else besides.

This is a very serious international problem problem and yet our government is wasting valuable time and resources on sportsman and law abiding, licensed firearms owners: good luck with that one, they'll have some awkward questions to answer after the next terrorist attack. I'm very certain it'll be a case of when not if unfortunately.

Even David Seymour was skeptical, the trouble is I think our politicians and academics are frighteningly naive.

Rather than bore you with the live feed of my presentation, here are some Youtube videos and documentaries that you may find interesting. All along people thought I was giving an opinion, I certainly was not, I tried to show them fifteen pages of illegal suppliers and provide insights into sophisticated criminal networks, all in five minutes. Oh well! At least I tried.

Re: Oral submission
All you can do is try Simon. Similar conclusions were drawn in the previous contract Steph and I worked on for the U.k Threat assessment organization. The if and when issue was also raised.

Re: Oral submission
Yeah good work Simon, again it takes courage man & you should have a clear conscience because of that.

I've tried to make my voice heard politically with my local MP & written submissions but admire your efforts & courage to make an oral submission person as I do Thomas.

Thank you,
