A-MAX or Partition?

So the game is driven boar in France.
With there law I have to use 150 grain bullet.
It's all rather close 50 yards max.
But the Sangliers (boar) can come in all sizes, some very big going 150kg!
Also there can be Biche (red hinds) can be taken.
I'm leaning toward the partition because it's all close stuff.
But if anyone can tell me otherwise I'm all ears!
Cheers
Francis

Hey Francis
What Calibre rifle are you using and what velocity are you loading to?
From what Ive read and learnt from Nathans books and here. Id say the Partition is the Bullet Id be picking. The A-max at that close range depending on velocity youre likely get bullet blowup on the muddy hide and sholder sheilds . Others may say different see what they suggest.

Re: A-MAX or Partition?
i would go the partition, in a heavy grain.
i think as warwick Said the amax may not be ideal at such close range.
you could try a heavy for caliber ELD-X but might pay to talk to the Guru about that.

Re: A-MAX or Partition?
partitions are awesome another consideration given the ranges you are talking could well be a barnes type projectile.....you will still have ample speed to get them opening properly and they hold together giving good penetration with added bonus of less meat damage/no lead fragments to cut out.
you could maybe get away with a slightly lower projectile weight if going down that path.
so my vote
partition #1
barnes #2

Re: A-MAX or Partition?
Thanks Warwick, I'm using a 7x57. Yes to the bullet blow out with the A-MAX.
This is why I was leaning toward the Partition more. Seems to be what Nathan was indicating in the books.
Thomas and Mike I'd not really looked into those two choices.
For a few reasons, mostly that I'd like to keep it simple.
But maybe I can have a dabble and see, no harm ah my funeral at the end of the day.
So looks like piggy gets the Partition unless someone has a better idea.
Thanks for the feed back guys.

hi Francis
i think the partition really is the best option as you already know.
are you going to try the 150 or 160grains?

Re: A-MAX or Partition?
Hi Francis, yes a very good choice. The soft front section is useful if encountering smaller / lean animals while the stout rear section can tackle large boar. A very devastating bullet as you will hopefully get to see.

Both the 150 and 160gr are reliable. But, the higher velocity 150gr may be more effective with running shots that strike to the rear.

I have to admit, at 2600fps MV, the A-MAX does work extremely well, much like the DRT in the recent vid, especially useful with shots that strike to the rear. However in an organized hunt such as this, you will receive less negative attention with the Partition.
