Bob MavinGday GuysI wondering who else uses a 30-06. I would like some opinions on what you think is the best weight hunting projectile & barrel length for around 500-600m on pigs & goats. I was thinking maybe 168g A-Max or 165g SST & 23" barrel? Interested in any opinions. Cheers Bob |

Martin TaylorRe: Any 30-06 users? Some great reading to look forward to Bob!I also run the 150 interbond in my sons 308 for deer stalking but he hasn't got the crosshairs on an animal yet! The 180PP is well used on Sambar and very respected! Its great to hear some reports on them, will grab some for close range stuff and give them a run. l cannot fault the Partitions though, they have not failed yet and have the ability to run out to 7-800 yards and still perform well, running into bone or lungs. Bob MavinRe: Any 30-06 users?DrewI forgot to mention. I tried reloader 22 but got better results with ADI 2209 in my 22.5" barreled Sako 30-06 with Federal gold match primers. Bob |

Bob MavinRe: Any 30-06 users?G'day allMaybe someone can clear this up for me? I still cant get my head around using heavy projectiles in my 30-06 for long range???? I use a ballistic program called Load from a disk and according to it, my 150 I/Bs at 3020fps shoot 34flatter and 5 less windage than 178 A-max at 2850fps at 1000yds with only 48lbs less impact??? I havent received Nathans latest book yet, maybe it will sort it out for me? Regards Bob |

Michael NeesonRe: Any 30-06 users?Just plugged some figures into JBMballistics.com and the Horn 150 I/B shows 343.3" drop @ 1000, 178 AMAX (LITZ) 346" drop @ 1000. The AMAX holds a lot more energy though 150 I/B 475lbs and 178 AMAX 595lbs.I guess it all depends on the solver that each program uses... be interested what the sierra software says... Usually the higher BC wins at longer ranges (for the same muzzle energy), from what I read though, some rifles may not shoot the bigger projectiles fast enough due to the bigger bullets having longer bearing surfaces. |
