Hollow pointing .22LR standard velocity solids

Hey Survivors!
So I got some CCI .22LR standard velocity 40 grain lead round nose ammo at a sub-sonic 1070 ft/sec...... at a way better price than slower hollow points. So now I just need to hollow point them in a safe and consistent manner! they'll end up weighing lighter and may gain some speed and loose some ft lbs of energy? But for the savings it worth some time to see what they'll do. A mad man would fit a ballistic tip to them?
Any ideas?

Not great, but thanks for asking. Mom-in-law passed recently and we've been trying to deal with the aftermath. You stay healthy and on target.

Re: Hollow pointing .22LR standard velocity solids
Hi: I have a die and shell holder made by Neal B. Waltz, 4105 Hyatt N.W., Massillion, OH 44646. The die screws into a regular reloading press, and the shell holder goes where shell holders go - LOL. The die has a center stem where you'd find the primer punch on a normal rifle cartridge sizer die. The stem is double ended, one end for HP and the other for flat point. My die also uniforms the bullet diameter to 0.225" while creating either the HP or the FP. And the stem is adjustable so you can set the depth of the HP or the diameter of the FP at will. You place the .22 cartridge in the shell holder and raise the ram, inserting the round into the die. Out comes the uniformed, HP or FP. In my .22 rifles, the resulting ammo shoots at least as accurately as out-of-the-box ammo. Maybe better in some chambers. I use it almost exclusively on CCI Standard Velocity LR ammo. I've created some with different depth HPs, and am planning to see what difference they make when the bullets are fired into 2L soda bottles filled with water. -Ed
