As you can see I have a CZ 550 in 375 H&H, I currently have a Leupold VX3 1.5-5 30mm tube, I am looking at having another scope setup for longer ranges any ideas......again I am a Leupold fan, need something that can handle the recoil and tramped through the NZ bush not wanting to spend crazy money .....

Good morning Shane - One of the benefits of Leupold scopes is you can build your own. You probably know they have their custom shop. If you are going to stick with Leupold, any of their variables are adequate. I have never found them to be recoil sensitive (I have a few). The power you are looking for would be determined by the range you want to shoot, which will be limited by the bullet you use at it's given velocity. Your VXlll is still probably your best bet as I have never found it wanting for optic clarity.

hi Shane
i have switched to sightron for all my scopes now,
latest addition a 3-16 stac which is proving a good scope which maybe a good option.
they also do a 2-10x32 stac which might be another good option as a do everything scope

I have three newish Leupold VX3 scopes and just like the older ones, after a short time they will not track properly. One has been on a 7x57 so it is not heavy recoil but just lousy scopes. Sent a couple in to have fixed up but after a couple hundred rounds and a quad ride or two, those are not going to be on my hunting rifles.

Sightrons for me along with several Nightforce scopes.

That's not a good thing to hear, Bryan. When you say a "short time", how long are you talking? Two hundred, three hundred rounds? I'm just wondering if I am going to have to start looking for a new scope(s) soon. Was it a gradual loss or sudden?

I don't want to hujack this thread so short of it is I bought 3 Leupld VX3 scopes 3.5 to 14 per and put one on a 7x57 Remington Classic, a .308 Win in Remington, and a 783 30/06 (now the barrel is .358 Win).
load workups and barrel breakin, casual shooting of them for a year was exactly 235 rounds on the 7x57, 198 on the .358 and 225 on the .308
Most was in summer nd I would quad about 7km in to where I like to shoot,

During load workups I would change the scope turrets to close to the aiming point and after five or six sessions of doing that the reticle would jump around when I tried to move it to where I wanted. Over time all were sent in for repair and they weill remain on .22LR from now on after I send them back and have the parallax settings altered to accomodate this.

I have always found this to be the case with Leupold scopes but normally it would take three or four years. Problem was found only when I changed a load and sighted in for a new load so would not normally have seen it until I did that.
and I have never been hard on any of my pets...although each of these scopes sat on a high recoiling rifle I was testing for people who wanted a bedding job done, and those were only like 10 or so shots each at the most. (from 300 Weatherby to 340 Weatherby and 30/378 Weatherby rifles with hefty loads) This could be most likely the cause but no longer will happen here anyway as I now use the client's equipment and optics when I do any of that sort of thing...which is not that often any longer since I am getting older and lazy, plus more into hunting again...which I prefer anyway.

Thanks, Bryan. I don't think Shane would consider it a hijack, seeing as that is a good review of a scenario for what he was asking. This in itself might be why my Leupold's don't seem to have the same concerns. None of my rifles are hard hitting, mostly 30 cal and 33 cal magnums. With Shane mounting any scope on his 375, he might be well advised to take your account into consideration.

Just buy a Sightron and be done with! It'll last a lifetime
Track and zoom on target , has super clear glass and they just work without any fuss. The 1-7 x 24 compact looks awesome and my 6-24 x 50 LRMD and 8-32 x 50 work fine. Yes they are not small scopes but I don't miss the quarry and the freezer is full. The other good thing is that the animals don't suffer or run off wounded. Why do people not learn from others miss-takes ??
