Thought I'd share with a tool I hacked up for 'keying' plastic stocks when stabilizing/bedding plastic stocks:
I went down to Bunnings and for the price of 3 rounds of factory ammo I picked up the cheapest soldering iron I could find and poked some copper wires in it to make a nice little 'hot wire brush' which proved very convenient for the keying the skeleton of the forearm.
It looks like this:

...and it's effect looks like this:

Have fun!

Chris. "You go allrite aye!" Great use of your resources mate. I was going to use my Gas soldering iron and poke dimples into the stock but I will be copying that idea lots quicker than the single tipped iron. Thanks for sharing mate.

I´m about to stabilize a friend´s SPS prior to matchgrade bedding (matchgrade compound, not bedding job LOL)

On previous works I use the singe-tip soldering... will be nice to upgrade.

Thanks!

Very effective Chris, works a treat.

One more thing that will help everybody. Make up a couple of small lengths of C shaped folded tin to sit on the top edge, this will stop the Iron body from scaring the top edge of your stock.

Tin of course would be ideal but even a couple layers of paper tape will prevent all but the most kack[sp?] handed attempts to melt the top edge.

One thing I would do on a second attempt is clean up the top edge of the skeleton so that I can fill neatly just over the top of it which seems like the right level.

Also I'd take more care with air bubbles, including warming the mix and giving it a gentle 'vibe'. I thought I was taking care but still finished up with many more bubbles than I'd like.

Re: Plastic stock hot wire tool
what a great idea ill be copying it if i do a plastic stock job.

i did buy a cheap briscoe's electric blanket for doing bedding jobs, i just wrapped gun in it, i did change tempt a couple time but mainly left it on high.
i haven't got Nathan's seal of approval of using one with his compound yet thou, so can't suggest it just yet
